Pas to Anwar: Old promises before new ones

Mole.my - Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim should stop making new promises to the people before he fulfils his previous ones, particularly his promise to Pas Pulau Pinang during the Permatang Pasir by-election in August 2009.

Pulau Pinang Pas youth leader Mohd Yusni Mat Piah said Anwar should fulfil his promise by giving Pas the Majlis Agama Islam Pulau Pinang president’s post as it was his promise to Pas should they win the by-election.

“If he (Anwar) fails to do that, how will people trust him anymore? This is a not small issue as he made the promise during election campaign.”

“If he fail to keep to his words to us, it shows that he can break his promise to other people too. How would the people trust you if you can’t keep your promise, your word?,” he questioned.

Yusni was commenting on the recent discontent regarding the appointment of PKR assemblyman for Batu Maung Abdul Malik Kassim as the new MAIPP president despite after having Anwar promised the to Pulau Pinang Pas commissioner Mohd Salleh Man.

The Pas youth leader has been quite vocal since Salleh Man was sidelined in the appointment which has now put Pas in a quandry.

Yusni had said before that Pas Pulau Pinang had compromised way too much in PR and the state leadership decision to give the MAIPP president’s seat to PKR was something Pas members and supporters couldn’t come to terms with.

During the Permatang Pasir by-election campaign in August 2009, Anwar reportedly said: “We will ask for Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng to consider appointing  Mohd Salleh as the head of MAIPP if he wins the seat.”

An earlier report in The Mole had stated that even Pulau Pinang deputy chief minister I Datuk Mansor Othman of PKR had remarked that the issue had  “blown up like a volcano right in our faces.”

The report highlighted that Opposition linked news sites have tried to put a lid on the issue and even tried to blame the Yang DiPertuan Agong Palace over the `mistake` in appointing Malik as MAIPP president.

Commenting on this Yusni said: “It does not matter now because the appointment had already taken place. What matters is Abdul Malik himself should know what to do”.

Penang Pas Youth, he said, would be sending a memorandum this week to Abdul Kassim, Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng, Pas central leadership and Pakatan Rakyat leadership council to resolve the issue.

“We just want Ustaz Salleh to be officially appointed as the YDP (head) of MAIPP. We were promised the post and the whole country know about the promise now,” Yusni stressed.

On Saturday, Mansor who is the Penang PKR’s chairman was quoted in a blog post as saying that Abdul Malik was willing to vacate the post.

Abdul Malik when contacted refused to comment on the issue.

Salleh, when contacted, told The Mole he had yet to be officially appointed, but had merely chaired a council meeting as the Yang Dipertua (head) of MAIPP.

Salleh declined further comments.
